We are pleased to invite applications for a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Healthcare Support Worker to join the Acute Medicine and Frailty Occupational Therapy Team at Ninewells Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive and experienced team delivering high-quality care to adults and individuals with complex medical, cognitive, and functional needs during an acute hospital admission.
Working alongside HCPC-registered Occupational Therapists, you will contribute to assessment, rehabilitation, prevention of deconditioning, and the promotion of independence, supporting safe and timely discharge from hospital.
The RoleIn this role, you will deliver delegated occupational therapy interventions across medical and frailty wards, in line with agreed protocols and under the supervision of Occupational Therapists. You will manage a delegated caseload and provide clear, accurate, and timely feedback regarding patients’ physical, cognitive, and emotional status.
You will support patients with activities of daily living, mobility, transfers, and engagement in meaningful activity, adapting interventions to meet fluctuating medical needs. You will also contribute to discharge planning through equipment provision, patient and carer education, and close collaboration with ward staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
You will support students and new staff where appropriate and ensure therapy equipment is used, stored, and maintained safely in accordance with health and safety guidance.
About YouYou will hold an SVQ Level 4 or HND in Health or Social Care, or equivalent relevant experience. Experience with in an acute inpatient setting is desirable. You will demonstrate an understanding of rehabilitation in acute care and be able to recognise deterioration or changes in cognition, escalating concerns appropriately.
You will have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively and sensitively with patients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
You must be able to work safely within a physically demanding environment, including undertaking frequent manual and therapeutic handling of patients with complex needs. You will be confident working independently within your scope of practice, while recognising your limitations and seeking guidance from registered staff as required. A commitment to person-centred, dignified, and compassionate care is essential.
