We are seeking an enthusiastic new team member to join the Benefits Expenditure and Debt branch of Social Security Scotland’s Corporate Finance.

This role you’ll have many opportunities to work on varied activities with a range of stakeholders and will be fully supported in developing your skills and career.

Responsibilities
  • Engagement and support for the implementation of financial systems and processes for all new benefits, while ensuring continuous improvement and refinement of existing processes.
  • Banking reconciliations and related activities, account reconciliation including reporting, analysis and journaling in the finance system.
  • Administration and review of financial controls for banking processes, including user access monitoring and review.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders within Social Security Scotland, the wider directorate, the Scottish Government and the Department for Work and Pensions.
  • Assist in completing monthly financial reconciliations, carrying out analysis and posting accounting journals in the finance system.
  • Line‑management responsibility (currently for one colleague), providing support and guidance.
  • Support preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts, ensuring a clear audit trail and maintaining integrity of financial data.

  • Data Analysis – Applies knowledge of relevant data analysis packages and methodologies in conjunction with strong analytical skills to examine varied sources of information to support decision‑making. Working level required.
  • Interrogation of Finance Systems – Connects finance information together from one or more systems/sources in a logical way to prepare for analysis and interpretation. Works with stakeholders to ensure relevancy of data to support insight‑driven finance decisions. Practitioner level required.

Skill Levels:
Awareness – Basic understanding of the topic with minimal use in role/prior experience;
Working – Moderate understanding of the topic with occasional use in role/prior experience;
