Position: GRADUATE GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

Role Overview –The Graduate Geo‑environmental Engineer supports the assessment of land quality, environmental risks, and ground conditions for a wide range of development and infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the role involves assisting with ground investigations, collecting and analysing soil and groundwater samples, preparing elements of technical reports, and contributing to environmental risk assessments and remediation strategies.

The position provides hands‑on experience both on‑site and in the office, offering excellent opportunities for technical development, career progression, and exposure to multidisciplinary project teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical & Design

  • Assist in planning, preparing, and delivering geo‑environmental and contaminated land site investigations.
  • Participate in soil, rock, groundwater, and gas monitoring and sampling activities.
  • Support the interpretation of site data, laboratory results, and environmental indicators.
  • Contribute to desk studies, conceptual site models, and preliminary risk assessments.
  • Assist in drafting sections of factual and interpretative reports, remediation strategies, and environmental assessments.
  • Help ensure technical work complies with industry standards, guidance, and regulatory requirements.

Project Management

  • Support the organisation and coordination of site investigation tasks and fieldwork logistics.
  • Assist with maintaining project records, data management, and document control.
  • Contribute to progress tracking and risk identification to support timely delivery.
  • Provide input to fee proposals, planning documentation, and technical scopes under supervision.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Help communicate findings and technical information to colleagues and project teams.
  • Attend site visits, internal meetings, and where appropriate, client or stakeholder discussions.
  • Support the development of positive working relationships with clients, contractors, and regulators.

Quality & Compliance

  • Follow health, safety, and environmental requirements during all site and office activities.
  • Assist with ensuring data collection, fieldwork, and reporting meet quality assurance standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by providing feedback and supporting updates to procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm, and curiosity as part of a learning‑focused role.
  • Take responsibility for personal development, seeking guidance and training as needed.
  • Share developing knowledge with peers and contribute to a positive team environment.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Science, or a related discipline.
  • MSc in Geo‑environmental Engineering, Contaminated Land, Hydrogeology, or related field (desirable).
  • Working toward or intending to pursue professional accreditation (e.g., CIWEM, IES, Geol Soc, or similar).

Experience

  • Graduate‑level experience; placements, internships, and academic project work are acceptable
  • Knowledge of contaminated land investigation, environmental risk assessment, or ground investigation techniques.
  • Understanding of UK environmental legislation, soil/groundwater contamination issues, and remediation principles (beneficial).
  • Experience preparing academic or practical reports and analysing environmental data (advantageous).
  • Any fieldwork, laboratory, or site monitoring experience is beneficial but not essential.
