Public Dental Officer – UistPDS: £54,117 – £81,174 per annum
Distant Islands Allowance: £1,406 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week with variable hours available by agreement

Relocation package: up to £8,000
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated dentist to join the Public Dental Service team. The successful candidate would be based at Uist & Barra Hospital and may be required to work in additional locations depending on clinical commitment and skills. Travel or accommodation expenses will be covered where necessary. The role includes providing dental care for priority group patients, particularly children and adults who require additional support.
Working within well-equipped surgeries, you will have access to the newly opened Uist and Barra Hospital Dental Hub and the professional support of colleagues. There are opportunities for professional development through training support and peer review.
Successful applicants will provide dental care not only in a static clinical environment but also in care homes and other domiciliary settings, requiring the clinical skills necessary to deliver a range of treatments within sometimes challenging environments for patients with additional and complex needs.
Allowances Payable- Distant Islands Allowance: £1,406 per annum
- Remote Areas Allowance: £4,500 per annum for years 1–3; £9,000 per annum for years 3+ pro rata
- Recruitment and Retention Allowance: £25,000 paid over two years (subject to eligibility)
- Out of Hours Allowance and on‑call payment for undertaking on‑call duties
- Up to 33 days annual leave per annum plus eight public holidays (dependent on NHS service)
The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme).
