Description
The Horizons Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) is an integral component of the inpatient behavioral health program. The RN collaborates with a multi/interdisciplinary team to provide specialized inpatient mental health treatment. The primary goal is to assess, observe, treat, and educate patients and families experiencing mental illnesses such as depression, dementia with behavioral disturbances, psychosis, and other mental disorders. The RN provides ongoing medical and psychological care, crisis intervention, and stabilization in a structured, safe environment.
RN supervises unit LPNs, CNAs, and PCAs during shifts.
- Restores and promotes patient health by completing the nursing process, including assessment, data analysis, goal setting, intervention implementation, and outcome evaluation.
- Collaborates with physicians/providers and multidisciplinary team members.
- Establishes personal rapport with patients and families, providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.
- Identifies patient and family education needs and utilizes appropriate resources.
- Ensures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic and regulatory standards; administers medications and treatments prescribed by authorized personnel.
- Protects patients and team members by following infection‑control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Documents patient care services timely and accurately.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and operations integrity.
- Delegates tasks that can be safely performed by others, in accordance with the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
- Ensures equipment is maintained and calls for repairs or evaluates new equipment.
- Keeps professional and technical knowledge current through continuing education.
- Communicates effectively and participates in team problem‑solving.
- Adapts assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate physical, cultural, age‑specific, and developmental needs.
- Arrives on time for scheduled shifts.
- Adheres to all safety protocols.
- Uses assistive devices for lifting.
- Exhibits behaviors consistent with DRH core values and implements DRH Standards of Behavior.
- Meets all required conditions of employment, including vaccinations.
- Performs respirator and fit testing as required.
- Performs other similar duties as assigned.
- Minimum qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English; basic computer skills; flexibility and rapid adaptation to urgent situations.
- Education and experience: Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by CCNE, ACEN, or CNEA.
- Licenses and certifications: Current, unencumbered RN license in Oklahoma or compliant multistate licensure; BLS and NIHSS required; CPI training required. Valid driver’s license for travel positions.
- Must be able to take call and respond within 60 minutes.
This is a safety‑sensitive position under Oklahoma law. Candidates must test negative for THC in pre‑employment and any subsequent drug tests, even with a valid medical marijuana card. The policy is communicated to applicants as a resource. The position requires respirator and fit testing; vaccinations are required per DRH policy. Medical and religious exemptions are available upon request.
