Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you an experienced support worker who's looking for a role where they can really shine in 2026? Look no further as we have a great opportunity for you! We're on the lookout for caring, reliable and motivated colleagues to join us in Dumbarton as Complex Care Practitioners on a permanent full-time or part-time basis. We also have relief contracts if you are looking for something a bit more flexible.

The Role

Here at Cornerstone, the support we provide is centred around assisting individuals to identify and work towards their goals. We work with them to develop personal plans that reflect their choices, individual support needs and capabilities.

You’ll become part of a fun and welcoming team supporting individuals to manage their own tenancy, increase and maintain their independence, and encourage them with personal care as well as their social, health and wellbeing needs.

The individuals we support all have different hobbies and interests, so you need to bring creativity and enthusiasm to the role. You will support them with accessing leisure activities, engage in meaningful activities, and take part in hobbies and interests that are important to them, both within their home and out in their local communities.

Being a Complex Care Practitioner is more than just a job; there’s no better feeling going home after every shift knowing that you’ve made a positive difference in someone’s life.

A bit about the individuals you will support

One of the gentlemen we support enjoys nothing more than going for a pint and placing a bet or two on the football. He loves going to as many matches as he can and enjoys being kept busy out and about chatting with people. As well as being active, he looks forward to holiday every now and again.

One of the ladies we support has autism and a learning disability. She loves listening to music and getting creative with arts and crafts. She also loves spending time out in the community every day, whether it’s going out for a drive in her car, enjoying a nice coffee out or getting her hair and nails done.

About you

Due to the complex care needs within our service, we’re looking for people who bring experience of providing care and support within the Health & Social Care sector, who have the confidence to lone‑work and manage behaviours that can challenge. We will also need you to bring a commitment to studying for and achieving an SVQ (SCQF Level
7) and completing training and further qualifications identified as essential for our service. We will fund and support you with any training and qualifications you’ll need and we will even reimburse your yearly SSSC registration fees.

  • Previous experience of providing care and support to adults with learning disabilities and/or of working in a forensic service
  • An understanding of professional boundaries, accountabilities and responsibilities
  • A passion for delivering excellent person‑led care and support
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, listening and written)
  • Numeracy skills to ensure accurate records are kept
  • The ability and confidence to deal with behaviours that can challenge
  • A caring and professional attitude and approach
  • A positive approach to learning
  • Confidence in the use of computers

It would be great if you also have:

  • A full, clean driving licence (some of the people we support have their own mobility cars and enjoy going out for drives, but this isn’t a deal‑breaker for the right candidates).
Shift Patterns

Typical shift patterns fall between the hours of 0800‑2200, but can vary on occasion if the individuals we support have events planned that they’d like to attend. Weekends, public holidays and waking nights will also form part of your rota on a rotational basis. We appreciate the importance of work‑life balance and offer flexibility where we can.

What makes Cornerstone a great place to work

Along with hosting annual Star Awards to celebrate and recognise the impact and dedication of our colleagues and the achievements of the people we support, there are several other great perks that you’ll receive when you join our team:

  • You’ll have a meaningful job doing things that you enjoy—it often doesn’t feel like work
  • Your work actually…
