Minnesota Power is seeking a Relay & Meter Technician to join its Tech Systems department to focus on relay system reliability, integrity, and security to ensure equipment protection. This position will provide relay protection and verify control systems are properly installed and maintained, as well as confirm power equipment is tested to ensure continuity of service. When you join Minnesota Power's Tech Systems team as a Relay & Meter Technician, you will make certain that accurate and current test documentation is maintained to support preventive maintenance and to mitigate liability.
Additionally, this role requires a strong background in electrical control circuits, instrumentation control circuitry, motor controls, PLCs, and print reading in an industrial environment.
- Install and maintain relay protection and control systems.
- Provide technical support to internal/external departments and customers.
- Provide relay system reliability, integrity, and security.
- Two-year technical college degree (or higher) with course work in electronics/electrical technologies and microprocessors.
Advanced Apprentice Level:
- One year or more of direct job-related experience.
- Related experience will include:
- Maintenance electrical work with a strong background in the following: electrical control circuits, instrumentation control circuitry, motor controls, PLCs, and print reading in an industrial environment.
- Job-related experience as a Relay & Meter Technician.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN.
- This Position is subject to NERC CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation - Critical Infrastructure Protection) standards.
- Occasional out-of-town work and after hours call-outs will be required.
- Successful candidate will be required to complete an apprenticeship program.
- Requires good communication skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
- This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
- The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $45.97-$53.15. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, and experience.
