This Bailiff position (.5 FTE) is unique in that it will be assigned to the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth, MN. The duties involve receiving and setting up email calendar appointments, taking court data, entering it into the jail management system, and escorting inmates to virtual court appearances.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–12:00 pm.
Salary range: $20.50–$26.73 per hour (2025).
Responsibilities- Preserve order and control in courtrooms and common areas to ensure safety of court officials, participants, and the general public.
- Monitor and screen individuals, packages, and personal items entering and leaving the courtroom using detection methods and devices.
- Assist in providing security during heightened security situations and in emergency medical situations.
- Obtain defendants’ identifying information in accordance with applicable laws.
- Direct and escort non‑combative custodial individuals within the courthouse.
- Perform all duties in accordance with established Departmental policies under the supervision of the Sheriff’s Office.
CONSTANT: Stand; hear up to 20 feet; vision; work around others; customer/public contact and work inside.
FREQUENT: Lift and carry up to 10 lb; push/pull up to 20 lb; bend neck; climb stairs; feel/use fingers; grasp/handle; maintain posture; move about; reach; rotate neck; talk/speak; twist at waist; walk; hear within 5 ft; use earphone; near, midrange and far vision; depth perception; visual accommodation; work with others; and clients with behavioral challenges.
OCCASIONAL: Push/pull up to 70 lb; balance; crouch/squat; reach above shoulder; sit; static neck position; stoop/bend; taste/smell; right and left wrist turn; color vision; exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; work alone; extended days; work outside and drive.
RARE: Restrain individuals.
Minimum Qualifications (Pass/Fail)- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
Candidates with related training in law enforcement, military law enforcement, or private security training and/or experience are preferred.
