Role
Purpose:
The Senior Real Estate Attorney helps oversee the legal real estate team as well as oversees our portfolio of retail store leases and handles real estate-related legal matters as well as other legal issues as directed by the Chief Legal, Risk & Compliance Officer.
- Prepare, negotiate, and/or review real estate related documents and correspondence such as letters, leases and lease amendments, including dispute resolution with Landlords.
- Documents presented for signature are thoroughly negotiated and reviewed.
- Builds relationships and consensus ensuring win-win outcome.
- Uses exceptional oral and written communication skills to resolve disputes, clarify or answer questions.
- Looks for creative ways to address issues/solve problems; uses resources (internal/external) appropriately.
- Proactively manages the maurices lease portfolio to ensure relevant dates are acted upon.
- Looks for ways to continually maximize lease administration processes.
- Works effectively with others to ensure relevant dates are acted upon; serves as a resource for lease information.
- Serves as a general legal resource for other departments (as directed by Chief Legal, Risk & Compliance Officer) such as real estate, construction, store operations, lease accounting and lease administration.
- Collaborates well with individuals at all levels; builds strong external resources; offers solid counsel/advice.
- Researches all angles of an issue before attempting to solve a problem.
Education:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; must be licensed to practice law in at least one US state
Experience:
- 7-10 years retail/commercial leasing experience required
- In-house counsel experience required
- Must be skilled in building cross-functional and external partnerships
- Strong detail orientation
- Outstanding written and verbal skills
- Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills
