Job Description:The Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting pre-analytical and post-analytical functions within Essentia Health Laboratories. This role involves specimen collection, processing, and performing waived lab testing in accordance with accreditation standards and state licensure requirements. The MLA promotes patient safety and quality in all tasks.
EducationalQualifications:
- Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program
- OR complete an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within 1 year of hire
- Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary skin puncture, including urine, swabs, etc.
- Handle and process specimens according to testing requirements to support laboratory testing.
- Perform laboratory testing as per accreditation and licensure standards when applicable.
- Participate in training of new staff, students, and personnel as needed.
- Adhere to Essentia Health policies and safety standards while handling specimens and equipment.
- ASCP certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistance
- Recent experience in specimen preparation and processing
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills
