Job SummaryThe Medical Laboratory Scientist-MSL-MT performs laboratory analysis, evaluates laboratory results and reports results promptly and accurately. Recognizes and solves basic laboratory problems, supervises other laboratorians and assists in the maintenance of laboratory systems.
Minimum Qualifications- Education/
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR documented equivalent education and training per ASCP Board of Certification alternate routes for certification - Licensure/Certification/Registration: ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) within twelve (12) months of hire into this position, or if hired prior to 1/1/2004, certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). Those hired without valid certification are encouraged to take the first available examination after their date of hire and pass this certifying exam within three (3) consecutive administrations of the exam within twelve (12) months of hire.

Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current clinical laboratory procedures and policies; knowledge of laboratory test results and their correlation with physiologic condition; knowledge of laboratory safety practices; technical ability in the following clinical laboratory departments hematology, chemistry, immunohematology and blood banking, microbiology, serology, coagulation and urinalysis. Ability to organize work and meet deadlines; extensive ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently, often while under stress;
to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; to operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments; to maintain absolute accuracy in regard to patient name, r and results; to maintain accurate records.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. - REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate
