This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. We are seeking a talented and driven engineer with a focus on consumer hardgoods to join the CBG Hardgoods team. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and bringing to market exciting and high-quality consumer products.
Responsibilities- Lead the mechanical design and development of consumer products focused on hardgoods.
- Conduct feasibility studies, concept development, and prototyping to validate design ideas.
- Utilize CAD software (e.g., Solid Works) to create engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis to ensure product performance.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams for seamless integration of mechanical components.
- Conduct testing and validation of prototypes to ensure product performance.
- Identify and resolve design issues, provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle.
- Stay up‑to‑date with the latest trends and technologies in consumer product development.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start).
- Three (3) years of mechanical design and development of consumer products in a private, public, government or military environment.
- Two (2) years of experience working with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works) for 3D modeling and drafting.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed:
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Experience in mechanical design and development of consumer products, with a focus on hardgoods.
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing).
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to think creatively.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work in cross‑functional teams.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
On‑site:
This role follows an on‑site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
May include up to 15%.

Benefits & CompensationThe expected compensation range for this position is $122,292 - $149,468, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The compensation offered may vary based on factors such as knowledge, training, skills, work location, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental & vision, health savings accounts, health care & dependent care flexible spending accounts, disability benefits, life insurance, voluntary benefits, paid absences, and retirement benefits.
