The Project Controls Specialist will lead and support project controls processes in collaboration with the internal Project Management team to ensure successful execution of projects within approved budget, schedule, and scope. This role is responsible for cost control, scheduling, forecasting, reporting, and performance measurement across engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity offering long-term potential with a growing project team.
Key Responsibilities Project Controls & Planning- Lead project controls processes to support delivery of project scope within approved cost and schedule.
- Ensure accurate project setup in Enterprise Planning & Controls software.
- Develop and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
- Follow project execution plans and support adherence to project controls standards.
- Serve as a point of contact for technical project controls questions.
- Develop, analyze, and maintain schedules at various levels of detail.
- Apply and review logic ties, critical path analysis, and resource loading.
- Perform schedule what-if scenarios and forecasting.
- Create, review and analyze schedule reports and backup documentation.
- Support Interactive Project Planning Meetings (IPPM).
- Consult with project teams on schedule progress and recovery strategies.
- Develop and maintain cost reports, forecasts, cash flow reports, and progress curves.
- Input and document cost changes, forecasts and progress updates.
- Approve purchase orders and subcontracts for proper cost coding.
- Review upstream (prime contract) and downstream (purchase order/subcontract) change orders.
- Interface with Project Management and Accounting to review costs, contingencies and support audits.
- Develop and maintain an earned value management system (EVMS).
- Input, validate, and analyze progress measurement data.
- Monitor performance metrics and develop reporting formats appropriate to stakeholder needs.
- Perform material takeoffs as required.
- Conduct quality checks and inspections of project controls deliverables.
- Perform field audits to validate accuracy of reported data and processes.
- Assist with project forensic analysis when required.
- Support logistics planning and construction coordination.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures and safety standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field OR equivalent applicable experience.
- Minimum 3 years of direct project controls experience.
- Experience with project scheduling, cost control, forecasting and reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain OSHA 10‑Hour Safety Certification.
- Experience with Oracle Primavera P6.
- Experience supporting EPC or large capital projects.
- Familiarity with earned value management systems and critical path scheduling.
