Job SummaryCirrus Aircraft is hiring an Aircraft Systems Engineer focused on the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). The engineer will design, develop, integrate, and certify systems such as complex mechanisms, textiles, composites, and pressurized systems, ensuring structural strength on both SR and SF platforms as well as new projects. The role also involves coordinating and leading development and system integration work with subcontractors and external suppliers.
Responsibilities- Handle requirements, design, traceability, and installation of on-aircraft equipment with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure system requirements comply with Part 23, ASTM, and other regulatory, industry, or MIL standards.
- Take responsibility for designs and design outcomes for project assignments.
- Define, execute, and troubleshoot integration tests—both on aircraft and bench level—validating performance and supporting certification.
- Interface and collaborate with various aircraft disciplines (structural, electrical, flight‑test, etc.) across current and new Cirrus platforms.
- Perform system analysis and modeling: thermal/heat‑transfer, flow/pressure‑drop, component sizing (fan, pump, heat exchanger, valves), and control system architecture & analysis.
- Conduct trade studies involving weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Active involvement in development and certification of aircraft systems under FAR Part 23 or Part 25.
- Research industry guidance documents for best practices (e.g., SAE).
- Support technical publications: provide source data and review system operating manuals, maintenance manuals, and continued airworthiness instructions.
- Travel for technical interchange meetings, program reviews, testing, and aircraft field support as needed.
- Interpret aircraft technical documentation: system schematics, mechanical drawings, electrical drawings, technical publications, and standards (14
CFR, MIL, SAE, ASTM, RTCA, etc.). - Participate in continuous improvement activities at the personal and departmental levels.
- Anticipate project tasks and provide guidance to junior engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in PLM and CAD software, including Windchill PDM and Creo/Pro‑E.
- Strong understanding of top‑down modeling principles and practices.
- Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a cross‑functional organization.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Experience with system validation & verification, including assembling validation, writing system test procedures, conducting integration testing, and troubleshooting problem reports.
- Familiarity with environmental testing.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Independent and cross‑functional teamwork capabilities.

- Excellent technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
