Position: Teaching Assistant Professor/Instructor of Trumpet Fy27

Position Description

The Department of Music in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Minnesota Duluth invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor/Instructor of Trumpet. This non‑tenure, nine‑month 100% term appointment, with potential renewal, will begin in August 2026. Primary responsibilities include teaching applied trumpet lessons to a diverse group of music students in various styles, with possible assignments in related brass courses (e.g., brass techniques, chamber coaching, trumpet ensemble) and other courses commensurate with background and experience.

Responsibilities
  • Teach applied trumpet lessons
  • Teach courses/ensembles in the music department that may include music technology, improvisation, or jazz studies
  • Actively recruit and retain students for the Department of Music
  • Participate in brass area duties, including organizing juries, department area events, and recitals
  • Engage in outreach activities to promote the Department of Music within the university and the broader community
  • Engage in department, college, and university service, including participation in faculty meetings, committees, academic advising, and events that contribute to the growth and success of the Department of Music
Qualifications
  • Minimum qualification: A master’s degree and an established record of excellence in trumpet teaching and professional performances.
  • Preferred qualifications: A terminal degree in music and evidence of success as a teacher of applied trumpet at the collegiate level. Proven ability to recruit and maintain a studio, performing and teaching commercial styles including jazz, and ability to support the University’s commitment to equity and diversity.
  • Teaching Assistant Professor rank requirement: Completed terminal degree prior to the appointment start date.
Pay and Benefits

Instructor Pay Range: $43,589 – $58,119; depending on education, qualifications, and experience.

Teaching Assistant Professor Pay Range: $48,622 – $64,830; depending on education, qualifications, and experience.

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment.

Position Type: Faculty and P&A Staff.

Compensation reflects the value and unique contributions of each candidate while maintaining equity within our organization.
