Operations Engineer
Position Overview
The Supply Chain Planning Coordinator owns the translation of demand into executable production plans. This role analyzes demand signals, identifies capacity and material constraints, and works cross-functionally with Procurement, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Care to keep manufacturing flowing and customer commitments on track. This is not a transactional buying role. It’s a hands‑on, analytical, shop‑floor‑connected position for someone who can turn imperfect data into clear priorities, proactively drive quantity and shipment schedule conversations, challenge assumptions, and push actions that optimize manufacturing flow and service performance.
Key Responsibilities Planning & Analysis- Analyze current and future production loads to identify risks, bottlenecks, and capacity gaps
- Identify outsourcing, batching, and sequencing opportunities to reduce backlog and improve throughput
- Monitor inventory levels, lead times, and production schedules to ensure material availability
- Use Excel and ERP systems to pull, analyze, and present data that supports operational decisions
- Translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations around staffing, equipment, and workload planning
- Work closely with Customer Care to negotiate staggered delivery schedules when appropriate, ensuring customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Confirm realistic delivery dates based on production capacity, material availability, and scheduling constraints.
- Coordinate with Buyer/Planners, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Care to align priorities and resolve conflicts
- Act as a central point of communication when tradeoffs or constraints exist across departments
- Facilitate decision‑making by presenting options with clear pros, cons, and recommendations
- Partner with procurement to ensure material flow supports production schedules
- Collaborate with operations leadership on capacity planning and resource allocation
- Actively follow up with Production Managers and Supervisors to ensure production schedules are executed as agreed with Customer Care.
- Maintain strong shop floor presence to understand real‑world execution challenges and constraints
- Proactively identify and escalae issues that could impact production schedules or customer commitments
- Drive follow‑through on action items and ensure accountability across teams
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance planning accuracy and efficiency
- Support crisis management during material shortages, equipment failures, or demand spikes
- Create and maintain production planning reports, dashboards, and metrics
- Creates shared schedule of order shipment dates (even as partials) to include passivation schedule
- Communicate schedule changes, delays, and recovery plans to stakeholders at all levels
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership in clear, concise formats
- Document planning processes, decisions, and lessons learned
- Associate's degree;
Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience - 5–7+ years of relevant manufacturing or supply chain experience
- Manufacturing experience required (fabrication or OEM environment preferred)
- Background in procurement, supply chain, buyer/planning, or operations
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis from raw datasets)
- Experience working in ERP/MRP systems with comfort navigating data independently
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence across organizational levels
- Self‑starter who can work through ambiguity without detailed direction
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, or related field
- Experience with capacity planning, production scheduling, or materials planning
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- Project management experience
- Ability to walk manufacturing floor and navigate production areas
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally (reviewing materials, samples, documentation)
