OverviewNorth Atlanta Dermatology is hiring a PRN Medical Assistant to support our busy multi‑provider clinics. This float position helps cover staffing gaps. You’ll be cross‑trained in clinical Medical Assistant duties and Front Desk responsibilities and gain exposure to a variety of dermatology procedures. This role requires travel to all 5 clinic locations (Duluth, Suwanee, Buford, Cumming, and Marietta) as needed — mileage reimbursed.
Must be available to work a minimum of 2 weekdays per week.
Shift schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (1 hour lunch).
ResponsibilitiesAs a PRN Medical Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting patient care and clinic operations across multiple North Atlanta Dermatology locations. This position includes both clinical and administrative responsibilities to help maintain an efficient workflow and a positive patient experience. Responsibilities include assisting with patient exams, preparing procedure setups, documenting in the EMR, managing supplies, and supporting front desk tasks as needed.
This is a travel‑based role, and you will receive notifications for shifts anywhere from same‑day coverage to one month in advance.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm name and date of birth
- Obtain and record vital signs, medical history, and chief complaint
- Scribe for providers during patient visits
- Assist provider with in‑office dermatology procedures (biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, injections, wound care)
- Set up procedure trays, instruments, and equipment
- Prepare, label, and route pathology and lab specimens according to insurance guidelines
- Document clinical notes and provider instructions in the EMR
- Provide post‑procedure and wound‑care instructions to patients
- Sterilize instruments, maintain infection control standards, and restock exam rooms
- Monitor nurse line/tasking and respond to patient questions as directed
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times
- Check patients in and out
- Verify and update insurance and demographic information
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments
- Handle inbound phone calls and relay messages in the EMR
- Collect copays and process payments
- Prepare daily paperwork, consent forms, and new patient packets
- Manage scanning, faxing, and routing of medical records
- Communicate patient concerns, scheduling changes, or urgent requests to clinical staff
- Ensure a positive and professional patient experience at the front desk
- Able to triage patient problems
- Familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & blood borne pathogen standards
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments
- Experience administering injections
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD‑10 codes
- Knowledge of office financial policies
- Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization
- Able to operate standard office equipment (computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Fluent in English
- Ability to function well in a high‑paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors
- Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction
- Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing
- Use of hands and fingers
- Talking and listening in person and on the telephone
- Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds
- Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects
- High School Graduate or GED required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant (CMA) program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre‑med or pre‑physician’s assistant track preferred
- CPR certified preferred
- 1–2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred
- Previous experience in Dermatology preferred
