Position Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Employment Type: Full-Time | Exempt

Location: Greater Atlanta Area (Hybrid flexibility possible case-by-case)

Travel Requirement: Approximately 30% (client and vendor sites)

Position Overview

A nationally recognized engineering and systems integration organization is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design and delivery of complex manufacturing, packaging, and automated system projects. This role functions as a technical lead responsible for developing engineering deliverables, coordinating project execution, and ensuring solutions meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and performance expectations.

This is a hands-on engineering role with project ownership responsibilities. The individual will collaborate cross-functionally with internal engineering teams, project managers, vendors, and clients while guiding junior resources and supporting installation/start-up activities.

Key Responsibilities Engineering & Technical Execution
  • Develop process flow diagrams and mass balance calculations
  • Create general arrangement layouts and equipment installation drawings
  • Produce fabrication packages, system installation packages, and specifications
  • Perform engineering calculations for utilities, pump sizing, and system design validation
  • Review designs for compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements
  • Interpret and generate technical documents, including:
  • P&IDs
  • Isometrics
  • Equipment elevations and cut views
  • Bills of materials
  • Benchmark drawings
  • Lead engineering design efforts for assigned projects
  • Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets to meet delivery commitments
  • Coordinate internal teams and external partners
  • Conduct project progress meetings with stakeholders and vendors
  • Support procurement activities, including RFQs, vendor selection, and contract oversight
  • Interface with accounting for project cost tracking and accuracy
Field & Implementation Support
  • Lead field activities during installation and system start-up phases
  • Troubleshoot design or integration issues on-site
  • Ensure deliverables are technically sound and implementation-ready
Team Development & Process Improvement
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff
  • Review work products for accuracy and quality
  • Drive internal operational improvements and engineering best practices
Required Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering (required)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Experience
  • 5–7 years of mechanical engineering experience in one or more of the following:
  • Packaging systems
  • Process manufacturing
  • Automated production systems
Technical Skill Requirements Design & CAD
  • Strong 2D and 3D CAD experience (Autodesk environment preferred)
  • Ability to edit layouts and integrate scanned model data
  • Familiarity with Navisworks or similar tools
Manufacturing Systems Knowledge

Experience working within environments utilizing:

  • Just-In-Time manufacturing
  • Total Productive Maintenance
Working knowledge of commonly used industrial devices, including:
  • Pneumatics and solenoids
  • Sensors, photo eyes, transmitters, and flow meters
  • Safety systems (light curtains, interlocks, emergency stops)
Software
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • MS Project
  • AutoCAD or equivalent platforms
