Georgia Connections Academy is a tuition‑free, full‑time virtual school for students in grades 5‑12 throughout Georgia. Working from our office in Duluth, Georgia, or from your home in Georgia, certified teachers will utilize the Pearson Online Classroom to support and motivate students in working through their curriculum, deliver synchronous instruction, provide intervention and enrichment, and use data to diagnose student learning needs. All GACA staff must participate in monthly in‑person activities, including but not limited to school and department meetings, student engagement opportunities, required training/development, and school‑level events such as state testing and graduation.
- Represent a commitment to equitable practice in all areas within the job description; include evidence‑based decision making, hold high expectations for all students, and provide individualized support to meet those expectations.
- Support the instructional program with asynchronous recorded lessons and synchronous instruction, along with individual communications and intervention.
- Provide clear, constructive, and consistent feedback for all student work, create progress reports, and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner.
- Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers regularly to develop and update Personal Learning Plans, score assessments, provide feedback, monitor assignments, and coach special projects.
- Develop a general knowledge of the entire program’s K‑12 curriculum and detailed knowledge of the courses for which you are responsible.
- Operate within the Response to Intervention/Multi‑Tiered System of Supports model, using data to provide Tier 1 differentiated instruction, and collaborate with teachers to implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
- Support students and parents with alternate lessons, assessments, and strategies, and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects to meet individual learning goals.
- Build strong relationships with students and families to provide direct instruction and intervention that meets the needs of the individual student.
- Work collaboratively with other staff within a professional learning community to ensure successful student progress and effective communication.
- Collaborate to monitor student data and make instructional decisions that directly impact learning.
- Develop alternate interventions and extensions in collaboration with teachers and specialists to keep all students advancing at high levels.
- Maintain student records and data, including attendance and contact logs.
- Coordinate with Advisory Teachers and School Counselors to ensure appropriate communication and goal attainment.
- Attend required school events (graduation, social activities, field trips) and integrate them into the curriculum where appropriate.
- Engage with families at school events and field trips, and devise virtual methods to maintain a “school community.”
- Participate in state testing organization, professional development, and marketing efforts that require teacher representation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Highly qualified and certified to teach Secondary Science in Georgia.
- Strong technology skills, especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite.
