Overview
Chippewa County is accepting applications for Patrol Officer positions within the Sheriff’s Department. The job duties of a Patrol Officer include but are not limited to act as the official representative of the office of the Sheriff and accomplish the goals of the patrol division by detecting and preventing potential criminal activity through residential/business and building patrols; enforcing traffic laws for the purpose of reducing property damage, personal injury or death resulting from traffic crashes and by using good relations with the public, promote community, government and police partnerships to address the causes of crime, fear of crime, and other community issues.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Law Enforcement Standards Board Certified or possesses an equivalent out of state certification at time of hire required
OR
- Sponsored by Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department and shall enroll in the next available Law Enforcement Standards Board class required.
- Must possess 30 (thirty) college credits from an accredited college as defined by the U.S. Department of Education upon hire unless employed in Law Enforcement prior 1993.
- Must possess 60 (sixty) college credits within 5 (five) years of hire from an accredited college as defined by the U.S. Department of Education unless employed in Law Enforcement prior to 1993.
- Prior Law Enforcement experience preferred.
If applicant does not have Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification upon hire, they may be hired as a Recruit Deputy while obtaining their certification. Recruit Deputy must enroll in the next available Law Enforcement Standards Board class.
Patrol Officer – 2026 Starting Wage$32.53 – $37.68 per hour depending on qualifications plus an excellent fringe benefit package.
* May be eligible for an annual step increase.
$28.66 per hour plus an excellent fringe benefit package.
* Upon successful completion of LESB Certification, reclassification to a Patrol Officer starting wage effective the next pay period.
