Location: West Hempstead, NY Schedule: Full Time,40 hours per week Monday – Friday 1pm-8pm, one weekend shift per month|
Salary:$25.63/hour

The Opportunity

Family and Children’s Association (FCA) is seeking a dedicated and energetic Recreation Specialist to join our Residential Program that services adolescents with mental health impairments.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and conduct social, recreational, and cultural activities daily, monthly, and seasonally.
• Develop a comprehensive therapeutic recreation plan for the residents to build assets and self-esteem.
• Develop community contacts and resources to support social, recreational, and cultural activities.
• Implement Medicaid billable services for residents.
• Provide individualized skill assessment, instruction, and supervision to the residents.
• Accompany, supervise, and provide transportation for activities.
• Coordinate the fiscal recreation needs by monitoring the recreation budget.
• If needed/requested, assist families in locating resources in their community to help them plan activities for children on home visits.
• Model positive interactions with residents and set appropriate boundaries.
• Ensure the implementation of all program structure including Program Orientation, Policies and Procedures, Behavior Management Plan, and a Strength’s Based Approach.
• Assume other tasks or responsibilities assigned to ensure the effective operation of the program

Qualifications

• BA degree in human services or related field required. (Therapeutic Recreation and National Council Therapeutic Recreation Certification eligibility is preferred)
• Must have experience working with children and adolescents with emotional impairments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills with MS Office
• Valid and clean NY Driver’s License
