Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) – Pediatric Integrated Care

Job Summary:
The Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) provides high-quality mental health counseling and support within an integrated care model embedded in medical pediatric clinics. This role collaborates closely with pediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to address the emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of children and their families. The LPC-A delivers evidence-based interventions, supports care coordination, and promotes holistic wellness in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling to pediatric patients and their caregivers, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, trauma, and developmental concerns.
  • Conduct initial assessments, develop treatment plans, and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to the unique needs of children and adolescents.
  • Collaborate with pediatric medical staff to integrate mental health care into routine medical visits, offering real-time consultation and brief interventions as needed.
  • Support families in navigating mental health challenges, providing psychoeducation, coping strategies, and parenting guidance.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans, share insights, and ensure seamless coordination between medical and behavioral health services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of sessions, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with clinic policies and state regulations.
  • Assist in identifying patients who may benefit from mental health services through screening tools and referrals from medical staff.
  • Work under the supervision of a licensed professional counselor or clinical supervisor to meet licensure requirements and enhance clinical skills.
  • Contribute to a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care environment that prioritizes the well‑being of pediatric patients and their families.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices in pediatric mental health and integrated care models.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Current status as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) or equivalent provisional license, actively pursuing full licensure.
  • Experience or training in child and adolescent counseling, preferably in a clinical or medical setting.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, or family systems therapy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with medical professionals, families, and children of diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with integrated behavioral health models and an understanding of pediatric healthcare settings is a plus.

Preferred

Skills:

  • Experience working with children with chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities, or complex trauma.
  • Ability to adapt interventions for brief, solution‑focused sessions in a medical clinic environment.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish) is an advantage but not required.

Work Environment:
This position is based in a pediatric medical clinic, requiring flexibility to work alongside healthcare providers in a dynamic, patient‑facing setting. The role may involve variable hours depending on clinic needs and patient volume.

Supervision:
Reports to a designated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Clinical Supervisor for licensure supervision and to the Clinic Manager or Director of Behavioral Health for operational oversight.
