About the Department and This PositionThe Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) seeks to protect, preserve, and enhance Massachusetts’ environmental resources and create a clean energy future for all residents. In partnership with the Department of Energy Resources (DOER), the Energy Efficiency Intern will support the Energy Efficiency Division in education on the Commonwealth’s updated building energy codes, review of projects under the Massachusetts Environmental Protection Act (MEPA), and development of programs and policies to decarbonize existing buildings.
Responsibilities- Compile and analyze data relating to new building developments subject to MEPA project review to develop data‑supported trends and review MEPA’s impacts on the Commonwealth’s building decarbonization efforts.
- Prepare succinct presentation materials that convey MEPA impacts.
- Assist in collating questions from code users to the stretch code inbox to build and update the FAQ section on the DOER website.
- Assist in development of educational materials related to the division’s work, including but not limited to programs supporting adoption of energy efficiency and clean‑energy technologies.
- Participate in internal agency and external stakeholder meetings.
- Contribute to additional projects across the energy efficiency division as needed.
- Interest in building energy and climate policy.
- Interest in architecture, planning, engineering, or energy policy.
- Good analytical and data management skills.
- Graphic presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office – particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Research experience.
- Hourly rate: $18.00/hour for College Undergraduate Students and $28.00/hour for Graduate Students.
- Internship duration:
June 1, 2026 – August 14, 2026. - This position is partially remote with a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of one day in‑office per week.
- Architecture students pursuing NCARB licensure may earn required AXP Experience hours under a DOER staff licensed Architect mentor.
