SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Success Using Multiple Methods in Tutoring (SUMMIT) is a Learning Center program that encompasses all tutoring services, including an embedded academic peer support program:
Peer Academic Support Structure (PASS). The SUMMIT Faculty Coordinator works closely with the Learning Center Faculty Coordinator to develop SUMMIT and its programs, including the PASS program. Work includes the development, enhancement and implementation of academic assistance programs; the development of curriculum and training programs; the assessment of all programs, the setting of procedures and work protocols for Instructional Assistants, Student Tutors, Academic Support Peers, and other staff;

the coordination with other programs; and extensive outreach with instructional faculty. The Summit Coordinator actively participates as a member of the Academic Support Committee and other associated committees and work groups, and assists as appropriate with Equity Plan projects, BSI projects and other student success projects and planning.

Examples Of Functions and Tasks REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Program Development/ Evaluation/ Modification
- Provide planning, development and implementation for all SUMMIT academic assistance programs; analyze and evaluate existing programs, procedures and work protocols, adding to, modifying and/or revising them, as necessary so that all programs and activities promote student success; work with the Research and Planning Office to develop research queries relating to programs with the goal of enhancing student retention and success;

assist with program reviews and revisions as required. Develop and implement new tutoring programs, trainings and training curriculum for SUMMIT; market SUMMIT programs, develop procedures for access to services and facilities; maintain currency of understanding of laws and proposed legislation pertinent to academic support programs; serve as liaison between the Tutor Center and faculty members. In collaboration with other Learning Center faculty, explain and promote SUMMIT programs and offerings to Sierra College departments, programs, and faculty;

create and develop new and needed tutoring interventions based on best practices and the latest research of national learning center organizations and tutor/learning center certification organizations. Oversee the budget and statistics for current projects, and submit semester reports to the Learning Center Faculty Coordinator and LRC Dean.

Recruitment/ Selection/ Training/ Supervision/ Evaluation of Staff – Establish criteria for selection of Tutors and Academic Support Peers; develop procedures/classes for training Tutors and Academic Support Peers that ensure proper pedagogical practices; develop techniques and standards for the supervision of Tutors, Academic Support Peers, and other Learning Center staff; supervise and observe Tutors and Academic Support Peers and provide feedback to them;

encourage them to develop their tutoring and overall job skills in accordance with District policies and procedures and in collaboration with other Tutoring/Learning Center staff. Advertise available Tutor and Academic Support Peer positions to Rocklin Campus faculty members so suitable applicants may be referred; research student populations for potential Tutor and Academic Support Peer applicant pools, actively seeking diverse applicant referrals from among the Learning Center service users, student employees, staff members, and faculty;

interview potential Tutors and Academic Support Peers.
