Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides instructional services in assigned schools using the pullout model for students in grades K-5.
  • Serves as a member of the Central Eligibility Committee to determine eligibility and placement of gifted students.
  • Administers selected assessment instruments used for the identification of gifted students.
  • Assists with the development of curriculum and specialized programs for gifted students.
  • Assists classroom teachers at assigned schools in planning instruction for gifted students.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of gifted education professional development for classroom teachers and administrators.
  • Collaborates within a professional learning community in order to nurture and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to accelerated student achievement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Teaching license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with an endorsement in Gifted Education;
    Elementary Education preferred.
  • Has a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience preferred; experience teaching gifted students is highly desirable.
  • Has demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with professional staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and human relations skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of children.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, and parents.
