Join the CAPSLO’s team and help make a lasting impact on young children and their families. As a Behavioral Health Specialist with the Teaching Together Home Visiting (TTHV) program, you’ll play a key role in supporting the behavioral and developmental needs of children from birth to age five. This position focuses on early identification of developmental and behavioral concerns, promoting school readiness, and strengthening parenting skills.
Through observation, screening, consultation, and collaboration with home visitors and families, you’ll help ensure each child receives the support they need to thrive across all areas of development—social, cognitive, language, and physical.
Qualifications:
- Level I:
High School Diploma and two years experience in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field. - Level II:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field, plus a minimum of two years of teaching experience in an early childhood education program. - Teaching experience with children 0-5 preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
- Depending on the department assigned, a valid California driver’s license, a current DMV driving record, and proof of insurance may be required to fulfill job-related travel. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable laws.
As a Behavioral Health Specialist you will:
- Deliver home visits and parenting sessions using the Parents as Teachers evidence-based curriculum.
- Ensure compliance with CAPSLO policies, California regulations, and program guidelines.
- Conduct developmental, health, vision, and hearing screenings with complete documentation.
- Collaborate with Mental Health Consultants to build and maintain support systems for families and childcare providers.
- Guide staff and providers on the mental health referral process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and records.
- Meet required visit and screening quotas as outlined by TTHV and PAT guidelines.
- Participate in staff meetings and monthly reflective supervision sessions.
- Help plan and facilitate group connections and notify families of upcoming events.
- Build and maintain a network of community resources and referrals.
- Partner with CAPSLO programs, school districts, and community agencies to coordinate services.
- Communicate regularly with families via phone, text, and email to support engagement.
- Encourage parent participation in educational activities and recruit families for the TTHV program.
- Collaborate with professional staff and seek support when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the TTHV Project Coordinator.
