Job Description 2 Month Contract With A Local AuthorityJob Purpose
To undertake timely, high-quality assessments of children and families where there are safeguarding concerns. The post-holder will work within the Family Safeguarding framework to evaluate risk, need, and protective factors, providing professional recommendations to inform child protection planning and intervention. This role focuses solely on assessments and does not include long-term case management.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive Child and Family Assessments in line with statutory guidance (e.g., Working Together to Safeguard Children).
Gather and analyse information from children, parents/carers, and relevant agencies to identify risks, needs, and strengths.
Make professional judgments about safeguarding risks and contribute to multi-agency decision-making.
Prepare clear, accurate, and timely assessment reports for Initial Child Protection Conferences, Child in Need meetings, and other statutory forums.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local safeguarding procedures, policies, and legislation.
Liaise effectively with colleagues, other social care teams, health, education, and police services to ensure comprehensive assessments.
Attend supervision and team meetings, providing reflective practice and professional insights to improve assessment quality.
Support the implementation of early intervention and safeguarding strategies, providing recommendations but not managing ongoing cases.
Ensure all records, reports, and documentation meet organisational and legal standards.
RequirementsQualified Social Worker with HCPC registration.
Evidence of continued professional development in safeguarding children and family assessment work.
Proven experience in child protection and safeguarding assessments.
Experience working with high-risk families, including domestic abuse, substance misuse, and mental health concerns.
Familiarity with multi-agency safeguarding arrangements and statutory child protection frameworks.
Strong assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Capacity to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Resilient and able to manage emotionally challenging situations.
Reflective practitioner, open to supervision and feedback.
Non-judgmental, empathetic, and professional approach.
