Head of Service

ABL Health delivers the Integrated Health Improvement Service, Your Health Dudley, commissioned by the Dudley Council Public Health Team. This transformative service will play a central role in improving the health and well-being of residents of Dudley. The service provides integrated behaviour support to help people stop smoking, lose weight, move more and drink less alcohol. The service also offers wellness coaching for families, delivers community health checks, offers health and wellbeing advice and guidance, and proactively signposts to relevant organisations.

All of this is embedded in sustainable behaviour change and positive well-being.

The Head of Service will provide senior and operational leadership for the Your Health Dudley Integrated Health Improvement Service, overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure delivery against key performance indicators (KPIs) and contractual requirements. The role will lead, develop and manage staff and subcontractors, embedding strong governance, health and safety, and administrative processes while ensuring effective use of resources. Working closely with the Regional Manager, professional leads, commissioners and partners, the postholder will drive the vision and outcomes-based service model across weight management, smoking cessation, alcohol support, wellness coaching and health checks.

Responsibilities include performance management, stakeholder engagement, contract management, data analysis to inform service planning, service reporting, and representing the organisation at local and regional forums. The role will also champion innovation, service user voice, partnership working across health, social care and VCSE sectors, and support the development of communications, engagement strategies and opportunities to expand services across the Integrated Care System.

You will lead the day-to-day operations of the Your Health Dudley, Integrated Health Improvement Service comprising of fifteen to twenty staff, to provide outstanding service provision. The service, commissioned by Dudley Council, will be easily accessible and provide high-quality, evidence-based support, information and advice to individuals, communities and broader system partners. Engagement with the local community leaders, health professionals, and key system stakeholders will form a significant part of the role, enabling the health inequality messages to be heard and allowing priority groups to benefit from the community and system-level service.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Professional Lead and Specialist Dietician, Professional Lead for Smoking Cessation and Professional Lead for Mental Health and is directly line-managed by the Regional Manager for the Southwest and West Midlands region.

You will be a motivated, passionate, organised, and proactive leader with significant experience in public health, and managing delivery teams. ABL takes a strength-focused, asset-based approach to community delivery, looking to innovate, partner, and enhance local delivery. The role will require dynamic leadership which embraces the vision and values we wish to establish for each Service around system partnership working, community engagement, behaviour change, and reducing health inequalities.

This is a demanding job, but you will receive help from ABLs highly experienced, friendly, multi-disciplinary team of Health and Social Care Professionals, Business Intelligence, Service Development, Governance, Finance, Communication and Marketing, Business Development, and existing experienced delivery teams will be available to support you to drive the Service forward.

Your key responsibilities will be:

You will lead the day-to-day operations, ensuring the service meets its expected key performance indicators (KPIs). You will lead the various teams and nurture and upskill each individual while setting service direction through service development plans. You must embed robust governance, health and safety, and administration procedures while ensuring the service uses its resources effectively to fulfil its contractual obligations. This will require working closely with the Regional Manager and managing the contract with commissioners.
