Overview

This locum post will help address the Trust's diagnostic and treatment targets in out‑patient, in‑patient and endoscopy services and enhance capacity for the anticipated expansion in colonoscopy over the next few years. The post may be configured to accommodate additional subspecialty expertise where appropriate. Each 4‑hour session includes related administrative duties.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mixed lists of OGDs, flexible sigmoidoscopies and colonoscopies from inpatients, emergencies, waiting list and rapid access sources (220 minutes AM or 200 minutes PM).
  • Attend two outpatient clinics per week at Russells Hall Hospital or peripheral clinics (Corbett or Guest).
  • Supervise 36 inpatients during consultant cover, supported by at least three junior doctors (FY, IMT, SpR).
  • Contribute to unit audit projects.
  • Conduct Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday ward rounds (3 hours each) while on call.
  • Participate in the Gastroenterology/Endoscopy on‑call rota (1 in
    9), paid at Category B level with a 5% supplement; emergency endoscopies during the working day are incorporated into routine lists where possible.
  • Work flexibly across the four partner Trusts of the Black Country Provider Collaborative to support patient and service needs.
Qualifications
  • Full accreditation in gastroenterology and general (internal) medicine.
  • Experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, with additional caseload in general medicine.
  • Desirable: research interest with evidence of publications and a postgraduate degree.
