AW Surgeries is looking to appoint a friendly andwell-organised receptions to join our team. This important role supports thedaily running of the practice by greeting patients, managing appointments and toprovide an efficient and friendly service to patients attending the practice for their appointments or when accessing medical requirements like blood labelsor fit notes. Offering support and direction to patients in a courteous and friendly manor and making sure thatcommunication between patients, members of the Primary Health care team isefficient and effective.

The successful candidate will be confident in working in a fast-paced environment, have excellent communication skills, confident using IT systems, able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and be committed to delivering high-quality patient care. Confidentiality, professionalism, and excellent customer service are essential, as the role plays a key part in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the practice reception.

Previous administrative or receptionist experience, particularly within a healthcare setting, is desirable.

The hours would be as follows:

Main duties of the job

Ensure an efficient and effective receptionservice is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.

Handling enquiries from patients both in personand over the phone and ensuring messages are passed on accurately and promptly

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and support patients when needed.

Providing clerical assistance to the practice asand when required photocopying and scanning.

Keep the waiting room and reception area, noticeboards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.

Updating notice boards ready for next daysappointments

Topping up medical supplies in clinical roomsready for next days appointments.

Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail.

Managing and processing repeat prescriptionrequests.

Managing and processing fit note requests.

Provide administration support to Admin team.

Providing cover and support colleagues when required to maintain service levels.

Working in accordance with practice protocols,safeguarding principles and confidentiality policies.

You will be expected to undertake a variety of reception and admin duties to assist in the smooth running and operation of the practice, including the provision of clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team, whilst projecting a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors either face to face or via the telephones.

About us

AW Surgeries have two surgeries basedin Brierley Hill at Albion Street and Withymoor, Squires Court. We have apractice size of 17,000 patients. Ourteam consists of 7 GP partners, 1 salaried GP, 2 ANPs, 4 Nurses, 1 HCAs and 25 highly qualified and experienced Admin staff. As part of our Primary care network we alsohave working alongside us, Listening and Guidance, Podiatrist, Midwife and pharmacists.

We are a Teaching General Practiceworking with the University of Birmingham to train medical students from all clinical disciplines. We work closely with our 6 neighbouring practices as part of the Brierley Hill and Amblecote Primary Care Network.

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a varietyof duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptionsand dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors andearly signs of illness

Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute andrepeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GPworking within primary care.

  • Previous experience in a receptionist, administrative or customer facing role.
  • Experience using IT systems confidently, including email, Microsoft office and data entry
