Overview
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Dubuque, IA at Mercy One is a full-time role seeking a high degree of expertise in perinatal and neonatal health to join the team in Dubuque, Iowa. This position offers a competitive compensation package and a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities- Provide assessment, evaluation, and treatment of neonates under the supervision of pediatricians.
- Function as the mid-level provider for newborn patients by assessing, planning, and evaluating medical care under the direction of the attending pediatrician.
- Report accurately to the attending pediatrician and document in a problem-oriented manner.
- Order and interpret laboratory data and relevant imaging as appropriate.
- Write orders for medications, IV therapy, parental nutrition, blood products, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Attend high-risk deliveries, resuscitate and stabilize patients; stabilize babies for transport to higher-level care as needed.
- Provide newborn care, resuscitation and stabilization for all deliveries as required.
- Offer consultation to administrative, nursing, and medical staff.
- Participate in ongoing competency programs for maintenance of advanced neonatal knowledge and skills; contribute to nursing education and ongoing competency assessment.
- Pursue self-development activities through readings, lectures, and formal educational programs.
- Participate in quality improvement and policy/procedure development in the Birth Center as appropriate.
- Successful completion of an accredited NNP program
- NNP Certification
- Unrestricted State of Iowa License
- Experience in a NICU for a minimum of two years
- Ability to work independently (only 1 NNP scheduled per shift) providing coverage in a level II NICU, nursery rounds, attending deliveries, and performing circumcisions
- BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification
- NRP Certification
- Clinical knowledge and competencies to formulate nursing and medical interventions
- Interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other health care personnel
