Overview
POSITION PURPOSE Reports to the Lead Pharmacist or in their absence, the Retail Pharmacy Supervisor.

Responsibilities- Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients ranging in age from newborns to geriatrics.
- Perform tasks with a moderate amount of independent judgement, an advanced level of technical knowledge, and a high degree of accuracy.
- Must be competent and accurate with performing math calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, percentages, fractions and the metric system.
- Demonstrates the ability to exercise professional judgment in dealing with pharmacy’s customers.
- Competent and thorough in performing job functions for all age groups.
- Displays satisfactory customer relation skills consistent with Mercy’s mission, values and expectations.
- Displays behavior consistent with Pharmacy Citizenship Standards.
- Effectively utilizes verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and function in an environment with multiple stress factors.
- Competent with all hospital and pharmacy information system programs that the pharmacy utilizes.
In an 8-hour day, the employee may stand/walk for 8 hours. Mobility, dexterity, fine motor skills and the ability to use hands in repetitive motion tasks are required. Frequent (21-50% of work time) bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level and pushing/pulling. Frequent (21-50% of work time) lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs or less. Occasional (6-10% of work time) squatting, climbing two feet and balancing.
Must be able to see at a near visual acuity level. Must be able to speak and hear.
- Must be 17 years of age or older and eligible to sit for the national technician certification exam within 1 year of hire.
- Typing, clerical and science background desirable.
- Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment.
- Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.
- A minimum of three months of on-the-job training is required to perform the job; 12-24 months is usually required to become proficient.
