Microbiology Lab Technician Job Description
We are seeking an entry-level Lab Technician to join a fast‑paced, high‑volume quality lab specializing in testing food, beverages, and consumables. This role involves performing and documenting routine tasks related to sample processing and assays using standard laboratory methods and equipment. The technician will support the laboratory department by coordinating a variety of laboratory processes.
Responsibilities- Receive, register, and prepare samples for general analytical testing through data entry, weighing, and physical homogenization.
- Perform routine to more complex analyses per standard methods.
- Read and record results of analyses, ensuring identification numbers match with correct samples.
- Operate basic laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, colorimeters, spectrophotometers, autoclaves, and evaporators.
- Prepare and assure accuracy of standards and reagents needed for analyses.
- Conduct acid washes of glassware and special cleaning of other equipment and areas as required.
- Function as primary data generator, record and calculate data, and sign assay sheets.
- Perform routine lab and department maintenance to keep areas clean and orderly.
- Interpret customer requests and perform receiving and log‑in functions.
- Conduct preliminary interpretations of data or observations and draft short reports to the supervisor.
- Carry out assignments in a timely, diligent, and safe manner following standard operating procedures.
- Assure adherence to safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to quickly pick up verbal and written instructions on basic laboratory weighing and safe‑handling procedures.
- Understanding of laboratory safety and general work‑safety concepts.
- High attention to quantitative detail and a priority for quality and accuracy in tasks.
Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated personal resiliency and ability to maintain focus over long shifts and work weeks.
- Ability to receive and internalize constructive feedback from coworkers and leaders.
- Inclination to actively collaborate in a team‑oriented environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field, or a high school diploma with relevant experience.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
This role is based in a large team lab environment within a Fortune 500 company known for its reputable, stable, and diverse brands. The facility is modern, with multiple microbiology and chemistry labs. The position requires a willingness to work overtime, which can range from 5-10 hours per week and may not always be planned in advance. Two schedule options are available:
Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday, both from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with potential overtime of 1-2 hours each day.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dublin, OH.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.80 - $23.80/hr.
