A Personal Care Assistant is a non‑licensed member of the home health care team who assists the client with tasks of daily living as outlined in a written care plan that is maintained in the client’s home. Personal caregivers/aides are supervised by the Executive Director and receive scheduling direction from the agency staffing coordinator.
Qualifications- Possesses verifiable experience and completes the agency’s employment and certification process.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position.
- Must exhibit mature responsible behavior and understand the need for patient confidentiality.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must be able to follow direction and accurately report any changes in client’s condition.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from assignments.
- Plan and prepare meals according to client’s dietary requirements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment through light housekeeping – changing bed linens, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, and laundry.
- Provide companionship and stimulation for the client, including reading, walks, and accompanying the client to doctors or other appointments.
- Perform grocery shopping or other errands when needed.
- Assist the client with exercises.
- Assist or perform personal care, including hair care, oral hygiene, bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Assist with ambulation with or without mechanical aids.
- Assist with routine bodily functions such as toileting.
- Record pertinent information related to the client’s care.
- Remind clients to take medication at the appropriate time.
- Perform other housekeeping tasks as indicated in the care plan.
- Participate in in‑service education programs.
- Provide house‑sitting and pet‑sitting services when required.

- Communication – interact, discuss, and pose questions to strengthen understanding.
- Persuasion – exchange and defend ideas with the greater good in mind.
- Respecting – encourage and support others’ ideas and efforts.
