Pharmacy Inventory Systems Specialist

Certified pharmacy technician supporting pharmacy operations through inventory management, data analysis, and system optimization. Focus on interpreting data from automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell), forecasting medication needs, ensuring inventory accuracy, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

• Location: Santa Rita Jail Pharmacy, Dublin, CA 94568
• Work Schedule: Rotating shifts including holidays; fully on‑site.
• Security: Clearance per site/correctional facility requirements.

• Inventory Management:
  Monitor and analyze inventory data from Pyxis, automated dispensing systems, and EHRs to ensure accuracy. Resolve discrepancies and conduct cycle counts.
• Support implementation of automated dispensing cabinets – setup, configuration, vendor coordination, and Pharmacy IT liaison.
• Maintain system integrity – manage user profiles, troubleshoot equipment, coordinate service calls, perform audits, and oversee upgrades.
• Oversee Pyxis inventory – utilization, optimization, audits, and address stock shortages.
• Handle Pyxis system requests – add users, address service issues, and ensure cabinet connectivity.
• Generate reports using Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, slicers, SQL queries) to uncover medication usage trends and inventory metrics.
• Analyze performance metrics such as expenditures, efficiency gains, and prescribing patterns to improve inventory management.
• Develop and maintain KPIs; conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on data analysis to enhance inventory practices.
• Monitor medication availability, consult on storage optimization, and research cost‑effective procurement sources.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and state/federal pharmacy laws; implement quality control measures.
• Train pharmacy and nursing staff on Pyxis use and inventory procedures; participate in orientation programs and in‑service education.
• Lead initiatives to improve team efficiency, knowledge sharing, and operational effectiveness.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred). Equivalent experience may substitute for degree.
• National certification and current registration as a pharmacy technician in California.
• Minimum 3 years as a certified pharmacy technician with strong pharmacy operations background.
• Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience managing inventory with automated drug dispensing systems (Pyxis, Omnicell).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions); SQL queries preferred.
• Experience with EHRs and pharmacy system integration.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills; high attention to detail.
• Adaptable, proactive, collaborative, and “can‑do” attitude.
• Solid understanding of pharmacy regulations and ethical standards.
• Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift/carry supplies.
