You will serve as the PS Functional Analyst and Configuration Lead supporting the Acquire‑to‑Retire (A2R) Design Team for a major utility’s S/4
HANA transformation. The role centers on designing and configuring the S/4 Project Systems (PS) solution for Utility Construction Project Management and Controls, fully integrated with S/4 EPPM, Primavera P6, Heavy Bid, and S/4 Finance.
This is a hands‑on functional role requiring deep PS configuration expertise, strong integration awareness, and the ability to work closely with project controls, construction management, scheduling, estimating, and finance teams. The environment is fast‑moving and design‑heavy, with significant on‑site collaboration.
Key ResponsibilitiesSolution Design & Configuration
- Lead PS configuration for WBS structures, networks, activities, cost planning, budgeting, progress tracking, settlements, and project versioning.
- Define and validate project templates for utility construction programs (linear assets, capital projects, maintenance‑driven projects).
- Configure PS integration points with EPPM, P6, Heavy Bid, and Finance/Controlling (cost centers, internal orders, settlement rules).
- Support design of project cost structures, forecasting models, and earned‑value or progress‑measurement approaches.
Cross‑Functional Design Support
- Partner with the A2R Design Team to map end‑to‑end processes for project initiation, estimating, scheduling, execution, cost control, and capitalization.
- Facilitate workshops with construction, project controls, finance, and asset management teams to gather requirements and validate design decisions.
- Translate business requirements into functional specifications for integrations, enhancements, and reporting.
Integration & Data
- Work with technical teams to support interfaces between S/4 PS and Primavera P6 (schedule integration), Heavy Bid (estimate import), and EPPM (portfolio/program management).
- Define master data and project‑structure standards (WBS coding, network activity types, cost elements, settlement profiles).
- Support data migration activities for WBS, networks, budgets, commitments, and historical project data.
Testing & Deployment
- Develop and execute test scripts for unit, SIT, and UAT cycles.
- Validate PS‑related reporting (cost, schedule, progress, commitments, forecasts).
- Support cut‑over planning for project structures, open commitments, and in‑flight projects.
Governance & Documentation
- Document configuration, functional specs, process flows, and design decisions.
- Ensure alignment with utility regulatory requirements, internal controls, and capitalization rules.
- Provide guidance on PS best practices and S/4
HANA‑specific capabilities.
Required Experience
- 7+ years SAP Project Systems experience, including hands‑on configuration.
- Strong background in capital projects, utility construction, or engineering & construction environments.
- Experience integrating PS with EPPM, P6, and Finance/Controlling.
- Familiarity with estimating and bidding tools (Heavy Bid or similar).
- Ability to lead workshops, drive design decisions, and operate independently.
- Experience in S/4
HANA (public or private cloud) preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of project controls concepts (cost curves, forecasting, earned value, progress measurement).
- Utilities or Oil & Gas experience
- Experience with portfolio/program management in EPPM.
- Understanding of utility regulatory accounting and asset capitalization.
- Prior experience in large‑scale S/4 transformations.
- Approximately 50% on‑site in Northern California for design workshops, integration sessions, and stakeholder alignment.
- Remaining work can be performed remotely.
- High‑collaboration environment with cross‑functional design teams, PMO, and technical integration teams.
