OSP​/ISP Field Engineering Technician

Purpose:

Functions in a technician capacity, working primarily in the field, to gather data for engineering and design of aerial, underground, and buried fiber optic facilities. This position requires frequent travel around suburban Dublin/San Jose and occasionally other metro areas. Although this position predominantly involves field work, it will also require completion of administrative tasks as required by project leadership. Based on experience, skill level, and project needs, there is potential for this position to move into more complex field data collection.

• Long term contract with possibility to convert to full time based in Dublin, CA; entails field work around suburban Dublin/San Jose/Bay Area and occasionally other metro areas in N. Cal to take pictures, measurements, document existing facilities, and obtain design information in preparation for OSP network design.
• Contractor will follow Black & Veatch travel policy at all times.
• Will follow Black & Veatch safety policies.

• Develop familiarity by reading, understanding, and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.

• Develop understanding and comply with the Black & Veatch quality program. Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.

• Contribute to preparation of less complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
• Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work.
• Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

• Share information with others as requested.
• Coordinate with others when directed by supervisor or project leadership.

• Focus on internal client needs (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
• May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.

• Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes.

• Minimum of 1 year related work experience.
• Must be available to mobilize when scheduled and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to stand, bend, squat, walk, move, lift, carry equipment (>20lb) for the duration of the work day.

• Diploma or Certificate preferred.
• OSP/ISP or Fiber data collection/site walk experience. If not, then utility field experience.
