Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Reporting to the Charge Nurse and Senior Staff Nurses, you will work as part of the nursing and multidisciplinary teams to provide evidence-based holistic care to patients of King’s College Hospital (KCH) Dubai throughout their pathway of care. You will perform the role of the Emergency Nurse, delivering care as directed by senior colleagues, and continue to develop, practice, and expand your general and specialist nursing skills.
You will work with colleagues to ensure high standards of nursing care in the Emergency Department, maintaining professional and ethical responsibility and awareness of medico-legal aspects. All duties must be carried out under supervision and in line with King’s policies and procedures. You must not undertake any duties outside your scope of competence and should always seek clarification from senior staff when in doubt.
As a Triage Nurse, you will assess and prioritize patients upon arrival, identify those requiring urgent attention, and ensure timely medical intervention and patient flow within the Emergency Department.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Practice
- Deliver a high standard of evidence-based, courteous care to patients at King’s College Hospital (KCH).
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis under the supervision of Senior Nurses and Team Leaders.
- Treat critical injuries and trauma, including wound care and primary closure as requested.
- Be ready and equipped to respond to a variety of medical emergencies.
- Ensure patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate, sensitive information they can understand.
- Support patients, caretakers, and relatives, involving them in care where appropriate, and provide health education to promote healthy lifestyles.
- Respect and uphold each patient’s cultural and religious beliefs, privacy, dignity, gender, and sexuality.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Compliance and Standards
- Adhere to Dubai Health Authority (DHA) guidelines and maintain active registration.
- Uphold high standards of care in all departments of KCH.
- Liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure patients’ needs are met and that services are delivered in line with National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and DHA care guidelines.
- Ensure relevant information regarding patients’ needs and conditions is communicated to the MDT and that instructions are acted upon.
- Maintain good quality, legible, and contemporaneous patient health records in line with KCH policy.
- Ensure safe custody, administration, and maintenance of drugs in accordance with hospital policy and law.
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures to protect vulnerable adults and children, escalating concerns to the MDT.
- Remain knowledgeable about hospital codes and procedures, including cardiac arrest, mass casualty incidents, fire, bomb alerts, missing persons, violence/aggression, and infection control and prevention.
- Actively support the implementation of centre nursing/local strategy and uphold the ethos of the hospital.
Professional Conduct and Development
- Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities or areas from the Senior Nurse.
- Actively use the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) process to communicate clearly and accurately.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in nursing audits and clinical governance activities as required.
- Report adverse incidents in line with KCH policy and take part in investigations.
- Work flexibly across the organization to maintain safe staffing levels or as part of personal development identified during appraisal.
Specialty Responsibilities – Triage
- Assess and prioritize patients upon arrival to the Emergency Department based on clinical urgency and presenting symptoms, ensuring prompt allocation for medical care.
- Perform initial nursing assessments, record vital signs, and document relevant medical history to support timely and accurate clinical decision-making.
