Responsibilities
  • Senior Underwriter – Power: analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, interact with the market, and work under limited supervision using the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of moderate technical complexity to deliver high-quality service to customers.
  • Underwrite and analyze Power/Renewables/Energy new and renewal business under minimal direction within delegated authority, handling highly complex assignments.
  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge in relevant insurance products and the Power and Renewables industry.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manuals.
  • Operate at the highest authority limits on assignments, with the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support retention and acquisition, and identify customers’ insurance needs to provide solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance, assistance, and training to lower-level underwriters.
  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
  • Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite while balancing sound business opportunity.
  • Make agent/broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
  • Negotiate terms & conditions and close deals.
  • Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
  • Develop strong broker and client networks related to Power/Renewables/Energy industries.
  • Calculate target price accurately using underwriting tools appropriately.
  • Provide expertise on coverage issues with claims.
  • Support development of underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines.
  • Act as a mentor for lower-level underwriters.
Business Accountabilities
  • Utilize established financial systems and track metrics and KPIs to ensure the business unit meets standards and goals.
  • Provide advisory services to colleagues, measure exposure, and analyze risk to provide appropriate coverage within risk and compliance processes.
  • Research primary data sources, analyze key themes and trends, and make recommendations to support operational decision-making (e.g., which coverage to provide).
  • Research best practices and provide consultancy to senior management to improve underwriting processes and systems.
  • Assess complex customer cases, evaluate needs, and apply technical techniques to recommend solutions.
  • Build relationships with customers by handling queries and advising on account development to create additional value.
  • Apply rating tools and methodologies to deliver for customers and suggest improvements.
  • Advise senior management on appropriate coverage and ensure accurate earned premium calculations to protect the organization’s interests.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with 8+ years of experience in Power and Onshore Renewables Underwriting.
  • Relevant experience in broader Power and Renewables Insurance market or Energy Underwriting field may be considered.
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of underwriting process.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong drive to deliver results while upholding corporate values.
  • Knowledge of the insurance and re-insurance industry and the regulatory environment.
  • Ability to manage personal development and encourage others to do the same.
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and guidelines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office and presentation skills.
  • Flexibility to changing environment.
