E-Commerce Manager – Backend Systems
Responsible for managing, optimizing, and maintaining the technical backend infrastructure of the e-commerce platform. This role ensures seamless system performance, secure transactions, accurate data flow, and integration between internal and third‑party systems to support online sales operations.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and maintain the e-commerce backend system (e.g., Shopify, Magento, Woo Commerce, custom platforms).
- Ensure system stability, performance, scalability, and uptime.
- Oversee backend configurations, workflows, and automation processes.
- Manage integrations with payment gateways, ERP, CRM, inventory, logistics, and accounting systems.
- Ensure accurate data synchronization across all systems (orders, customers, products, payments).
- Coordinate API integrations and third‑party service connections.
- Monitor data accuracy, backups, and system logs.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and security standards (PCI‑DSS, GDPR, etc.).
- Manage user access, roles, and permissions within the system.
- Oversee order processing, fulfilment workflows, refunds, and cancellations.
- Manage inventory logic, stock syncing, SKU management, and warehouse integrations.
- Resolve backend issues affecting checkout, payments, or order flow.
- Analyse system performance and implement improvements for speed and reliability.
- Support website updates, feature releases, and backend enhancements.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate fixes with developers or vendors.
- Generate backend reports on sales, transactions, system performance, and errors.
Ensure accurate tracking of KPIs and backend data for business insights.
- Work closely with frontend teams, marketing, operations, and customer support.
- Support marketing tools such as promotions, discount rules, and campaign configurations.
- Liaise with external vendors, developers, and hosting providers.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience managing e-commerce platforms or backend systems.
- Strong understanding of e-commerce workflows, databases, and APIs.
- Experience with payment gateways, inventory systems, and ERP integrations.
- Knowledge of security, system performance, and data management.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with cloud hosting environments (AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of SQL, backend logic, or scripting.
- Experience in high‑volume or multi‑store e‑commerce.
- Technical and analytical thinking.
- Process optimization.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
