The Clinical Audiologist is responsible for delivering high-quality audiological and vestibular services to neonates, children, and adults within a multidisciplinary clinical setting. The role includes conducting comprehensive hearing and balance assessments, providing diagnostic and rehabilitative services, and managing patients before and after hearing implant surgery. The Audiologist will collaborate closely with ENT surgeons, implant teams, paediatric specialists, speech-language therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities include patient counselling, clinical documentation, equipment management, and participation in ongoing professional development and service improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Audiological Assessment
- Perform age-appropriate diagnostic hearing assessments for neonates, infants, children, and adults (e.g., OAE, A , behavioural audiometry, play audiometry, pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes).
- Conduct specialised assessments for complex or hard-to-test patients.
2. Implantable Hearing Devices
- Participate in pre-operative candidacy evaluations for cochlear implants, bone-conductor hearing systems, middle-ear implants, and other implantable hearing solutions.
- Conduct post-operative implant activation, programming (mapping), verification, and long‑term follow‑up.
- Provide counselling, device‑use education, and rehabilitation planning for patients and families.
- Perform comprehensive vestibular evaluations including, but not limited to:
- Videonystagmography (VNG)
- Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT)
- Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP)
- Interpret results, generate reports, and provide recommendations for management and referral.
Essential Qualifications
- Master’s degree or doctorate in Audiology
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with the DHA
- Formal training and demonstrated competence in paediatric audiology, including neonatal hearing screening follow-up, A testing
- Competence in the assessment and management of adult and paediatric patients with hearing implants (cochlear implants, bone‑conduction devices, and middle‑ear implants).
- Proven competency in administering and interpreting comprehensive vestibular diagnostic testing.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical audiology experience
- Experience working with multidisciplinary implant programs or advanced hearing technology clinics.
- Clinical experience in paediatric, adult, and geriatric audiology
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Certification or specialist training in cochlear implant mapping/programming.
- Advanced vestibular assessment training.
- Experience in research, quality improvement projects, or clinical teaching.
- Experience in tele‑audiology services.
