Job DescriptionJob Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will operate under the direction of the Resident Engineer and the Project Manager, contributing to the supervision team on major infrastructure projects with a specific focus on Sewage Treatment Plants (STP). The role involves overseeing the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems related to STP and associated infrastructure works.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor all mechanical works related to stormwater networks, pumping stations, and associated facilities.
- Review and approve contractors’ mechanical shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements, ensuring alignment with design intent and project specifications.
- Develop and implement QA/QC procedures applicable to mechanical installations, including inspection and test plans (ITPs) and commissioning protocols.
- Conduct and follow up on inspections for installations such as pumps, valves, piping, flow meters, mechanical screens, penstocks, actuators, and control systems.
- Ensure all mechanical works are performed in accordance with ASHRAE, NFPA, DEWA, and RTA standards.
- Review and verify the testing and commissioning of all mechanical systems, including performance tests, calibration, and handover documentation.
- Monitor progress of mechanical activities and report to the Resident Engineer on delays, deviations, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with the Head Office design team for technical clarifications, RFIs, and resolution of site-related mechanical issues.
- Verify and coordinate interfaces between civil, structural, electrical, and control disciplines, ensuring smooth integration of systems.
- Review as-built drawings and ensure the accuracy of documentation prior to handover.
- Participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and system commissioning activities.
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE requirements during mechanical works, lifting operations, and confined-space activities.
- Assist in evaluating contractors’ progress claims, variation proposals, and change requests.
- Mentor junior engineers and inspectors, promoting best practices in quality assurance and safety compliance.
