Position: Signalling Draftsman - 100%(m/f)

Signalling Draftsman

The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality 2D signalling drawings and coordination deliverables in full compliance with relevant authority standards and project requirements. The role requires strong technical drafting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate and timely design outputs.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, develop, and update signalling drawings, including Signalling layouts, Cable layouts (loops, yards, and mainline sections), Equipment location drawings, Interface drawings with track, civil, and telecommunications layouts
  • Incorporate review comments, redlines, and mark‑ups issued by signalling engineers in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain drawing registers, revision histories, and version control in accordance with project and quality procedures
  • Ensure drawings accurately reflect approved track geometry, turnout numbering, fouling points, and interface requirements
  • Support the preparation of drawings for IDC/IDR reviews and client submissions
  • Assist in ensuring consistency and alignment between signalling drawings and outputs from other engineering disciplines
  • Adhere to applicable standards, guidelines, and project‑specific drafting conventions
  • Interpreting signalling design inputs such as scheme plans, signalling principles, interlocking data, and track plans to produce compliant layout drawings
  • Applying knowledge of railway signalling assets including signals, points machines, track circuits, axle counters, balises, location cases, and associated wayside equipment
  • Producing cable route and cable core layouts showing cable routes, jointing, termination points, and interfaces with signalling equipment
  • Ensuring correct representation of track features including chainages, gradients (where required), turnouts, crossovers, fouling points, and clearance points
Requirements
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Drafting, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in a signalling draftsman role or a similar rail drafting position.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and updating signalling layouts and cable layouts for rail infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in CAD software used for signalling design, such as AutoCAD, Micro Station; knowledge of BIM environments and workflows would be an advantage.
  • Experience working with ACC (Autodesk Construction Cloud) or Project Wise or similar document management systems for drawing control, workflow management, and version control.
  • Working knowledge of rail signalling drawings, symbology, layering conventions, and applicable standards.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple drawing packages and revisions concurrently.
