Senior Welding Engineer
McDermott International, Ltd invites applications for the Senior Welding Engineer role. This position focuses on advancing the Welding discipline and mentoring less experienced engineers.
Job OverviewThe Senior Welding Engineer uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the Welding discipline within McDermott. They act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share conceptual and practical expertise related to the Welding discipline.
Responsibilities- Provide deliverables from Welding engineering and running of development projects/tasks, provide metallurgical consultative service to operating groups (Fabrication / Marine)
- Develop the Project Welding Execution Plan that defines the full scope of Weld Procedures required, schedule of qualification, quantity of electrodes and materials required for qualification
- Ensure that proper priorities relevant to project schedules are established and review progress
- Responsible for seeking the review and approval of all Project Weld Procedures through direct and indirect communications with the Customer and Certifying Authority
- Work with the Welding Engineering group and Welding department to execute R&D developments projects/goals identified
- Maintain contacts with technical groups to maintain updates on developments in welding technology
- Coordinate with test houses regarding testing of welding qualification coupons
- Co‑ordinate the technical selection of electrodes based on their physical, chemical, and corrosion properties as well as considering their weldability and economics
- Conduct regular review of Welding Consumables requirements v/s availability to ensure availability of the same
- Review project schedules, material control reports, and welding consumable estimates to determine changes to the welding execution plan
- Guide Welding Engineers on day‑to‑day matters and mentor trainee welding engineers to have a better understanding of Codes, Standards, and Project requirements
- Assist in resolving metallurgical, welding, and quality‑related problems, by investigating the cause of failures and prescribing fit for purpose
- Assist in the support and development of automatic/mechanized welding systems
- Manage welding school facility for the training and development of the workforce to improve the welding methodology and good workmanship practices
- Review of vendor documents related to Welding Engineering
- Bid stage: review and summarize customer specifications, identify bid qualifications and clarifications, project welder and procedure qualification requirements, and welding consumables requirements
- Identify any special needs that may be needed for execution
- Start getting involved/developing an understanding for ECA based acceptance criteria (for specific applications only)
- MS in Welding
- BS Degree (4-year degree) or IWE or EWE in Welding Engineering/Metallurgical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years directly related to Welding Engineering, Metallurgy/Materials in Fabrication/Construction Industry
- Welding Inspection qualification preferred
- TQM Education preferred
