Technical Lead - Utilities
Overview
Technical Lead - Utilities role at AECOM in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Lead and oversee technical projects within the utilities sector, driving innovation and ensuring operational excellence. The Technical Manager provides planning, technical reviews, project and quality management, daily oversight, and mentorship to the wet utilities team. Requires broad multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge and subject-matter expertise in wet utilities design (potable water, sewage, storm water, irrigation, district cooling, hydrology, etc.).
Responsibilities- Team Management - Support the Associate Director/Director in implementing discipline strategic goals. Supervise engineers and technicians, coordinate activities, monitor utilisation targets, ensure compliance with design management, project management and BIM plans, and participate in recruitment and performance reviews. Focus on team development and fostering collaboration.
- Technical Excellence - Provide solutions for wet utilities design and act as main contact for other disciplines. Undertake hands-on design work as required. Lead quality control of calculations and drawings, prepare specifications, feasibility studies, and contribute as an in-house expert on certain technologies or processes. Develop efficient procedures and liaise with authorities for permits and approvals. Develop cost estimates and technical effort estimates.
- Project Management - Act as Project Manager on mid to large discipline-specific projects with solid understanding of project delivery requirements.
- Client Relationship Management - Support business development and client relationships, assist with proposals and bids, manage client communications, present to clients and stakeholders, and lead large bid initiatives as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil)
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the utility industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Proven expertise in utility infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and energy efficiency
- Strong knowledge of smart grid technologies and their applications in utility systems
- Excellent project management skills with a track record of delivering complex technical projects on time and within budget
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in technical documentation and data analysis tools
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
- Willingness to travel within the UAE and potentially internationally as required
