Job Description
GEMS Schools in the UAE are looking for an enthusiastic, qualified and experienced Physical Education Cadet Instructor to join their team in August 2026. As Cadet Instructor you will be required to contribute to a high performing, values driven school by leading a safe, inclusive and aspirational cadet and physical development programme that builds student character, wellbeing, leadership, discipline, teamwork and service, aligned to UAE culture and national identity.
Additionally, deliver high‑quality cadet and physical training sessions that enable students to participate actively, build confidence, and reach their full potential. Act as a key point of contact for cadets during allocated programme time, maintain consistent standards, provide strong pastoral care, and ensure effective communication with families and staff. In consultation with the Programme Lead, provide logistical and organisational support for the annual cadet plan, including training cycles, events, trips, competitions, and camps.
- Plan and deliver weekly cadet sessions that develop fitness, drill, teamwork, leadership, resilience and citizenship.
- Deliver age‑appropriate physical conditioning and skill development with clear routines, high expectations, and positive behaviour management.
- Train and develop student leaders, including selection and preparation of cadet NCOs or student leadership roles.
- Support enrichment and school wide events where cadets contribute through service, ceremony, leadership, and community participation.
- Promote UAE values, respect for culture, and national identity through programme themes, assemblies, and key commemorations.
- Maintain the highest safeguarding standards and follow all school child protection procedures, reporting concerns immediately to the DSL or nominated safeguarding lead.
- Ensure robust risk assessments, safe supervision ratios, and clear safety briefings for all training, fixtures, trips and camps.
- Ensure health and safety protocols are in place, understood and consistently observed during all activities.
- Support student wellbeing through strong relationships, coaching conversations, and early identification of concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of cadet participation, attendance, training progress, commendations, and parental consent.
- Coordinate equipment inventory, issue and return, maintenance checks, and ordering of kit and supplies.
- Support the planning calendar for events and camps, including venue booking, transport coordination, staffing, and permissions.
- Ensure effective communication of key information to staff and families, including schedules, kit lists, event briefings and expectations.
- Liaise with external partners and providers where required, ensuring all compliance checks are met.
- Champion the school vision and values, modelling professionalism, calm authority, and care.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through clubs, fixtures, trips and enrichment.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as directed by the Principal or line manager.
- All staff who create, receive and use records are responsible for ensuring records are managed appropriately in line with school / company policies.
- Recognized PE or sports related qualification, or equivalent coaching certification.
- First Aid qualification, or willingness to obtain within probation.
- Safeguarding training, or willingness to complete immediately on appointment.
- Cadet instructor training or equivalent youth leadership training.
- Drill instruction experience.
- Outdoor education, expedition, or adventure training qualification.
- Experience working with young people and building strong, trusting relationships within a school environment.
- Strong behaviour management with the ability to create positive routines and clear expectations.
- Experience planning and leading sports or physical training sessions with a focus on inclusion and progress.
