The Role:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and social development of students with special needs in an elementary school setting. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to create a positive and effective learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities:
- Individual support:
Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with diverse learning needs, implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). - Classroom integration:
Assist teachers in adapting curriculum and instruction to meet the individual needs of students with special needs. - Social-emotional learning:
Foster positive social interactions and emotional well‑being among students with special needs. - Data collection and progress monitoring:
Collaborate with teachers to track student progress and inform instructional decisions. - Communication and collaboration:
Maintain effective communication with teachers, parents, and other professionals regarding student needs and progress. - Positive environment:
Create a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters acceptance and inclusion for all students.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field (preferred) OR
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in special education within a school setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Adaptability, patience, and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.
- Commitment to inclusivity and creating a positive learning environment for all students.
