Technical Manager

Ultra high end interior design practice are looking to expand their design division. The role on offer is for a Technical Manager to come in and work under the head Design Manager. Experience working in interior design is crucial to being successful in this position.

The Technical Manager is a senior technical authority responsible for ensuring that all design outputs are technically sound, buildable, compliant, and coordinated across projects. The role requires a hands‑on technical expert who sets standards, reviews all technical deliverables, and leads the technical production process from concept through to construction.

This role is distinct from the Design Manager and focuses on technical excellence, rigor, and risk control, rather than programme or design resourcing.

• Act as the technical authority across all interior design projects.
• Establish, maintain, and enforce technical standards, templates, and best practices.
• Ensure all drawings and details meet required levels of quality, accuracy, and buildability.
• Identify and resolve technical risks early, proposing clear and practical solutions.

• Review and approve all technical drawings, details, and specifications prior to issue.
• Ensure full coordination between architecture, interior design, FF&E, MEP, lighting, and specialist consultants.
• Challenge and correct designs that are not technically viable, regardless of design intent or seniority.
• Maintain consistent detailing and documentation quality across projects and teams.

• Lead the technical coordination process across internal teams and external consultants.
• Act as the main point of contact for technical queries, RFIs, and clarifications.
• Support the design team in translating design concepts into robust technical solutions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and client standards.
• Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance to CAD technicians and technical designers.
• Mentor junior team members, raising the overall technical capability of the studio.
• Work closely with the Design Manager to align technical delivery with programme and resources.
• Support freelancers and external resources, ensuring output meets studio standards.

• Provide technical support during procurement and construction stages.
• Review shop drawings, samples, and mock‑ups where required.
• Assist in resolving site issues, variations, and technical challenges efficiently.

• Strong technical background in interior design / interior architecture.
• Proven experience in a Technical Manager or Senior Technical Designer role.
• Expert knowledge of interior detailing, materials, finishes, joinery, and build‑ups.
• Excellent understanding of construction methods and buildability.
• High level of proficiency in CAD/Revit and technical documentation.
• Confident and assertive communicator, able to push back on designers when required.
• Detail‑oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Experience working on high‑end residential, hospitality, or commercial interiors.
• Experience coordinating with international consultants and contractors.
• Ability to work across multiple projects in a fast‑paced studio environment.
• Experience setting up or improving technical processes and standards.
