A Research Associate I position is available in the Williams Lab led by Dr. Terence Williams in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Under the general supervision of Dr. Williams, the Research Associate I will serve as a lab manager and support a wide range of routine research activities. Responsibilities include maintaining and manipulating cell lines and organoids in tissue culture; processing cancer patient research specimens and conducting experiments using them;
and performing standard procedures on laboratory animals, including surgical techniques and drug administration. The role also involves carrying out planned research tasks using observational, measurement, and analytical methods; collecting tissue and culture samples; organizing experimental results and preparing reports; and managing inventory and supply lists. Additional duties include assisting with specimen or data collection for research projects or demonstrations; cleaning and maintaining glassware and laboratory instruments;
performing routine clerical tasks to ensure adequate laboratory supplies; ordering laboratory and office materials, including liquid nitrogen, and receiving deliveries. The Research Associate I will also attend lab manager meetings when notified and communicate key updates to the laboratory and the principal investigator.
- Utilize laboratory equipment and established protocols to perform a variety of research experiments. Record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.
- May modify protocols.
- Write standard operating procedures and reports.
- Maintain records of work performed, including results and methodology; utilizing records may calculate, graph, and compile data.
- Develop techniques and expertise in one or more areas relevant to laboratory research projects.
- Ensure that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of materials.
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences.
- 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience.
- 1-2 years of research/laboratory experience.
- Experience with molecular biology (tumor and stem cell cultures), small animal surgeries, cryosectioning of tissue, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, PCR, statistics, and detailed reporting of experimental results.
- Understanding of biosafety and small animal handling.
