Overview

We are currently seeking to recruit a friendly and trustworthy support worker to work alongside a family, therapy team and case manager to support an energetic 15‑year‑old boy with complex care needs, in his own home.

Our Client enjoys day trips, shopping, watching films, listening to music, spending time with friends, and engaging in creative and messy play. He loves to spend time in his walker outside, being active in the community but also having days in with lots of interactive activities. The Client has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and requires 24/7 care which includes manual handling and full personal care.

He is non‑verbal but communicates via multiple communication aids and is strong at expressing himself with help of gestures, eye pointing, tone of voice and using eye‑gaze technology. The Client’s cognitive ability is high so it is important that he receives age‑related stimulation. He needs a high level of emotional support and therefore requires engaged, proactive, reactive and a passionate team member.

His emotional wellbeing is as important as his physical wellbeing and any support worker will need to feel comfortable and confident addressing emotional distress in a professional and calm manner taking into account the challenges that come with growing up, particularly as a child with multiple additional needs.

The Client has a full therapy team in place including Physio, OT, SLT, Clinical Psychologist and Conductive Education, and it will be essential that you are able to liaise with and work alongside these professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the client’s morning and after‑school routine, including the school run or accompanying him in the car.
  • Collect the client from school and ensure that his extensive daily routine is adhered to, working towards therapy targets and engaging in play/activities.
  • Maintain consistency with the routines already in place and employ a proactive approach to daily activities, ensuring the client is engaged and stimulated.
Qualifications
  • Preference for experience working with children, preferably within the community and with Brain Injuries.
  • A minimum of 3 years overall experience working in the care sector as a carer.
  • Full training on the child’s specific needs will be given.
  • Ability to communicate with alternative communication methods such as caring for someone with audio impairments and/or using alternative communication methods. Knowledge of Makaton is a bonus.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and emotional maturity with a reassuring, calming approach.
  • Proactive and motivated with the ability to work well with the family and existing team.
Working Hours and Availability
  • Regular Part‑Time Support Worker (12 Hours per Week):
    • Work 12 hours per week across designated days.
    • Shift pattern typically includes:
      • Sunday: 07:00 – 19:00 or 09:00 – 21:00
      • Additional shifts may be required to cover occasional changes to the client’s routine or during school holidays.
  • Core Support Worker (25.5 Hours per Week):
    • Commitment of 25.5 hours per week, with flexibility to work across 7 days a week.
    • Core shift patterns include:
      • Monday: 14:00 – 19:00

    • Provides ad hoc cover for annual leave, sickness, and other unforeseen circumstances.

      • Weekdays: 07:00 – 10:30 and 14:00 – 19:00

We aim to offer a competitive salary of £15.60 – £17.68 per hour, depending on experience and shift times/days.

This is an excellent opportunity for a support worker to join an extremely rewarding package of care where you will have an opportunity to help transform the life of a family whilst developing and maintaining professional working relationships. You will be joining a small and very supportive care team and family. The working environment is inclusive and transparent and everyone's input and ideas are welcomed.

The family have long lasting members of the team and acknowledge that a great team needs a great work environment.

By joining this family, you will be playing a key part in helping to develop the child’s goals and day‑to‑day activities. If you think you have the skills and experience required for this post, we would love to hear from you.
